Weekend

It’s been a wonderful weekend… Reading, library time , roasting marshmallows, whispering down pipes calling for Borrowers and sprinkler time.

I am so blessed and so thankful.

Reading

Chicken has made rapid progress in his reading. His reading has mostly consisted of short phonics stories and his weekly school reader.

Today I was talking to my sister who also home schools and she told me about the Bob Books. They are short books with adorable illustrations.Mason can actually read an entire book by himself now. He loves this and read five to Boo tonight before bed.

I loved seeing Mason read to his sister! It was so sweet:)

Great day with wonderful other homeschool mom’s and their kids. We had an end of year presentation where the kids could show something they accomplished this year. We had such a great time of food and fellowship.

Today was so much better….

School went well …. Really well.

We had a great play date at the park with some awesome friends.. Then picked a few things up at Walmart and of course we had to check out the toy aisle.

They have so much fun just looking at the toys.. And of course the added treat of getting something in the check out line is always exciting.

We ended the day with a yummy dessert… Yep it was a much better day… So thankful for do overs

Rough

Today was rough and seemed to last forever… School took longer then normal it was like pulling teeth.

I lost my patience somewhere along the way and had to apologize so many times… It’s hard being a mommy….

But tomorrow is a new day thank the Lord and I with his help will do better..

Busy laid back day

Today was a rather lazy day but we got a lot done.

We made a run to the Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery. I was out of honey and they sell local, raw unfiltered honey. While we were there I picked up two cucumber plants and four tomato plants.

Boo and Chicken helped me plant them when we got home.

Mason loves to water the plants.

In the afternoon we did school. Boo has been struggling with the math lately so I did some one on one work with her today with a work book that is for preschoolers.

She really enjoyed having that alone time with me so I think we will continue this.

So while Mason and I did math together Leighton kept trying to distract him.

He was really trying hard to be studious but she kept trying to get him to pet her it was quite funny.

I had to get on her to leave him alone. She was quite pitiful and didn’t seem to understand why her boy could not play.

Boo napped while we did math.. Poor girl the morning and afternoon activity was to much for her.

Ben had to work late so the Chickens helped me make whole wheat blue berry and chocolate chip pancakes. They looked so yummy!

I had this because I am currently on a 10 day reboot fast trying to improve my asthma. I have seen some improvement so far so I am excited about that.

When daddy got home we made a run to Furman and had a little treat.

We were celebrating this.. Chicken losing his second tooth. Wish that boy would quit growing.

Boo finished up the night by “feeding” Grandma’s friendship bread starter. Boo is baby sitting it while my mom is out of town… Any chance to cook or stir anything and Boo is all over it.

The day it was a good one…

Our day was a good one!

Chicken’s job is to water Grandma’s plants while they are out of own for their 53rd anniversary.

He is taking it very seriously and he did a great job!

After school they played some Math games together. I love when they get along.

It’s been a good day.:)

Brotherly love

It’s no secret that Chicken is an awesome older brother. He loves his sister so much almost to the point where he can smother her sometimes.

But I digress .. Chicken is currently in Kindergarten and he is doing a great job! Boo is currently doing the same worksheets etc that Mason is doing. She keeps up pretty well but she has trouble sometimes. She is only four so it’s to be expected.

So when she has trouble Mason will volunteer to help her.

He tells her what the answers are and it’s so sweet!

She loves her brother!

The cuteness kills me sometimes.:)

Homeschool

This is our first year of homeschooling. It has gone really well. Chicken is actually learning to read! I should not be shocked by this but I am. I never doubted that he was capable of learning I doubted myself. I didn’t think I would be able to adequately teach him. I don’t have a college education and my patience is nill. But I found a great curriculum and we are doing it! If I can homeschool then I am convinced anyone can homeschool. I don’t think everyone should do it but if you are willing then it can totally be done.

One thing that had been such a blessing this year is the co-op that we are in. I was home schooled and I never remember hearing about co-ops. It does not mean that they were not around I just was never part of one. But it’s great Chicken goes every Monday for a full day of school. He gets to experience a classroom setting with 11 other kids. They have music class , recess and lunch all the “fun” stuff I remember when I was in school for four years. Those are fond memories for me and I am glad that Chicken can experience this. To me it’s the best of both worlds and it works for us. That is the main thing it works for us right now. And it’s been such a blessing.

Today was registration day for the 2012-2013 year so we had to go to the church where it’s held to get all signed up. A train track runs right by the church and a train came whooshing by we had to stop and watch it. Trains sure are fascinating things especially to small boys.

My little cute was excited to see it too. I am excited that she will be home with me one more year and we can have mommy and Boo adventures while Chicken is in school on Monday’s.

On the way home we grabbed a bagel an we stayed at Panera talking and chatting for quite a while. It was fun to have a breather. We have really pushed ourselves this week trying to get caught up in school. We plan to hit it hard again tomorrow. But it was nice to have a break.

It was so beautiful when we got home we decided to bike to Falls Park. We asked Madison my niece to join us and we had fun! But man let me tell you pulling both Chickens was quite a work out there are some hills on the way home and together they weigh 70 pounds but it was good exercise.

Boo could not of sat any closer to Madison had she tried. She loves her “girl” as she calls her.

Mason found an island he was convinced was all his and Boo fed the ducks all her Cheerios. We biked home and hung out with Madison it was nice to rest after all that hard work:)

Tonight before bed Boo and I had a virtual tea party with her dolls. It’s the most adorable iPad app I have seen in a long time. You can make the dolls “eat” and ” drink” the food and then give them refills. Boo loves anything to do with cooking. She is a very girly girl!

Well that was our day and it was a good one.:) For that I am very thankful. Also very thankful to my dear husband who works so hard so I can stay at home with our Chickens:)
