My Chickens…

When we decided to have a second baby as soon as we found out it was going to be a girl we started using her name.  So early on Mason would point to my tummy and say  ” Baby Kyra”

Mason and Boo as babies

I was not really sure how he would react to to a sibling but when she came he called her ” his baby”.

Baby Kyboo and Mason

Sometimes she was not so sure about this.

Baby boo and mason kissing.

But he loved her from the beginning.

For a while it was really hard having a 2 year old and a new baby… I know Mason felt the change, babies take up more time. But at least at the time daycare was a constant for him he had the same teachers and his little classmates.  But that changed when I quit my job to stay home full time.  The adjustments were hard for both of us. I was suddenly with a toddler and a baby all day and he was without his little playmates.  He would  get frustrated sometimes that Kyboo could not play with him, he would try talking to her and then ask me why she would not talk back.  But as she grew they became closer. And in the past six months they have really interacted more  and it’s been so neat to see them  start to play together.

Boo and Mason

She adores her older brother she wants to do whatever he does. She dragged this chair over to sit right next to him.

It’s been so cute to see her try and be the little mommy to him when he cries or is sad she will rub his back and go “ohhh” it’s so sweet. Don’t get me wrong they fight and the sibling rivalry is really starting to crank up.

Some days I feel like this…

100_1973

Some days this is how I feel.  I know I have it good not everybody gets to stay home with their kids.  I am thankful to be a SAHM but some days it’s just so hard.  I used to work full time and I thought that was hard. But somehow the house managed to stay cleaner because no one was in it all day. I am not one of those highly organized people to begin with and I am not self motivated  much to my husband’s chagrin.

So put me in the house all day with two kids 3 and 1 and well simply put the house gets trashed.  And toys, toys I HATE them they are everywhere and when you ask the 3 year old to help he says “oh it’s too hard.” So I end up doing it myself because he takes so long to clean up. Then there are days like today… Things are going pretty good  the house is trashed from the weekend I won’t even talk about that. But I was trying to clean it up as Kyboo  (18 months) drags everything back out that I  JUST put away.

So I decide to take a break an make some phone calls and all of a sudden Mason starts screaming bloody murder from the bathroom at the top of his lungs. Why are you always on the phone when they decide to either freak out or pee on the floor?

I tried to finish the conversation with the nice lady while my child is shrieking from the other room about pee on the floor. I get off the phone go in the bathroom and he has indeed peed a lake in front of the potty not IN it in FRONT of it. And then Kyra decides to take a stroll in the pee as I am scrambling around trying to find anything big enough to sop up this lake of pee. And I lose it. Yep impromptu baths ensue…and a little yelling…for Kyboo to get out of the pee for Mason to get in the tub it was a three ring circus.

So dear husbands when your come home and your wife is wilded eyed and the kids are in front of the tv eating junk food.  Don’t ask why just give her a kiss and be thankful you were not the one sopping of the pee.

They grow up so fast…

img_08571

I took this picture of Kyboo last week. She was headed off to some corner of our “front yard” by herself . Sniff.  She is only 18 months old but she is already asserting her own brand of independence. She can put her own shoes on well one pair of shoes she can put on by herself.  She can feed herself with a spoon and tries to put her bowl in the sink like her brother when she is done eating.  She tries to buckle herself in the car seat, when we come home she closes the front door and wants to lock it. These are all little things, but it seems like she is doing them so much sooner then Mason did.

Funny how with the first you can’t wait until they start to walk and talk because you want to see them do new things. But with your second you realize how quickly they change how FAST they learn to walk and talk . And you want them to stay small just a little longer…….

My house is clean….

100_19803

Ok I just had to post this picture first. I was at the computer the other day and Kyboo was really quite and Mason and I went and looked and she to my horror had climbed up on the chair and then the table and was rummaging around in Mason’s play dough. She of course thought she was the cat’s meow so I had to take a picture then quickly got her down and moved the chair. =-)

So I have been tweeting about how not clean my house has been lately.  I just have not been in the mood to clean, and it was just a huge disaster zone. I don’t think I have ever seen so many crumbs on floor. Yeah I know that’s nasty  but, it’s the truth.   So I promised… PROMISED my husband that the house would be clean when he got home yesterday. The dear man had had enough.  So I put it off almost all day and FINALLY got around to starting on it around 3: 30 and he gets home at 5 ahhh. But I got it done.

So to encourage myself and hopefully to keep from letting it get this bad again. I took before and after pictures. I am to embarressed to post the before pictures…..I haven’t decided yet if I will. But I did take after pictures. I could post those but they are not as interesting without seeing the before pictures.  Ok I will be brave and show  you my little nest.

These are the before:

Do people really care?

pastedgraphicWhy do people blog? I am sure that people who do not blog wonder why? I for the longest times was just a reader of blogs. I personally thought it was interesting to see a snap shot into someone else’s daily life. I think people are strangely transparent  when they blog maybe because they don’t really see the  people or readers who they are writing too. Or if you are like me and just starting a blog you are not afraid for people to read it because you really don’t have a following.=-)

I dont’ know why other people start to blog, but I can tell you why I started.  When I quit my job in April of 2008 I was really lonely. I mean I was used to being around adults all day and I worked with my very good friend. We sat by each other and ate lunch together every day and when you go from that to being around a 2 year old and a 5 month old well frankly put you want to blow your brains out sometimes.  You go from having  mostly stimulating adult conversations about kids, your husband, the economy, politics I mean everything to conversations that consist of which is your favortie Wiggle, what color you like the best to well … you are talking to a 2 year old. And  your husband just never quite understands why you are like “oh yes another adult I can talk to”.  He is really not that interested in your day of dirty diapers, dirty dishes (because they seem to never end) and snotty noses. He has put in his 8 hours and wants to come home and relax and you feel like climbing the walls because the kids are a. driving you crazy or b. you have not been out of the house all day because sometimes with two especially when one is a baby was just to darn hard.  I know I am not the only one to feel this way so I started to blog about it.  If nothing else it was a way for me to get my thoughts and frustrations out and down  not on paper but online. And if anyone cares to read it then great.

So I blogged for a while but then just quit doing it, but I have started back up recently and I have really enjoyed it. Come to find out I really had no clue there were so many mommy blogs out there.   Stay at home moms or working moms that are just like me and understand exactly what I am going through. It’s so nice to read what other mothers post and to feel like you are not the only stressed out crazy mom.  Because no matter what foot we put forward in public our kids drive us nuts. We love them but sometimes… well if your are a mom you know exactly what I am talking about.  We love em to death but they have a way of finding that one last nerve and just jumping all over it.

As far as people really caring what you have to say I think in the end they do. It lets them know they are not alone they can share thoughts and ideas and even love. I think this has really been demonstrated by the online out pouring of love for Heather Spohr and her husband Mike Spohr over their beautiful daughter Maddie’s passing.  I for one have been touched and humbled by their willingness to openly share their joy in Maddie’s life with their fellow bloggers and the world.  Heather’s post today made me cry and I just prayed for her and her family. It has made me hold my own Chickens a little tighter. And to be thankful for them in all their craziness.

What do you do all day anyway?

img_06592

img_06422

Ok so these are so the words I know I mean I know  my husband thinks probably every day when he comes home.  I have only been a stay at home mom  for a year this April. But I am sure he envisioned it being so

me what different. I know he enjoys not having to take the Chickens to daycare anymore ( he would take them and  I would pick them up) this required him to get up early and help get the kids dressed in the morning etc.  And now he can just get up and be out the door in 15 min. Darn men and their ability to do that.  But I know he was thinking that maybe the house would be a bit cleaner and supper might be a little more planned and probably on time too. Because when he came home yesterday seriously his face was priceless and I had even warned him the house looked like it threw up.  I said  “I told you” he said “I know you weren’t kidding.”

So I will tell you how yesterday was at the Moffett household it was a typical day.  So we got up well.. not early… I am a huge night owl and a huge sleeper in so therefore I have made my kids the same way. They go to bimg_06691ed between 8 and 9 so it usually ends up being 9:30 or 10 I know aweful but really by the time you get them dressed, teeth brushed and story read it can really take a lot of time. But I digress ew big word but we got up around 9 well that is we woke up and then we all laid in bed watching cartoons until around 10. So then I got up and got on my computer and checked Facebook and Twitter my new obsession and maybe right a post.  The kids usually end up climbing on top of me while I do this and Kyboo always  ends up in my lap.. Then I got a shower which is never quick because you always get interrupted “hey mommy what are you doing”" Kyra hit me” etc. Kyra is crying about something. I know you moms understand that you never have a moment to yourself unless you are in the shower and not always then either. So by the time I got dressed and got the Chickens dressed it was 11:30  and I decided since it was sooo beautiful outside we should go to the park. So we went to one of our wonderful local parks Herdklotz  run by the Greenville Recreation Disctrict it’s a great park anyway  the kids played.. There were a lot of other moms in the little baby fenced in park you know the kind of moms who are the size of a pencil after they have had 3 kids and are so preppy looking and their kids only wear gap clothes and they drive enormious SUV’s that can seat like 10 people?  I am not one of those moms.  So Mason is 3 and really likes the “big” playground and since it was less crowded  we ventured up there  which was actually a big deal for me  because the big playground has always scared me with Mason it has the big slides that are really high off the ground. But it was fun Kyra just walked around and Mason did some stuff on there I did not know he was big enough to do and I realized how big my baby is getting.img_06731

So then we were hungry and decided to head over to The Purple Kitchen my sister’s cafe.   She serves  absolutely the  best Chicken Salad in Greenville and Mason loves it because Aunt Dana is a personal favorite of his and she also make great cupcakes and  cakes. So we went there and had a very yummy lunch and of course dessert. Then we went to Walmart we were out of the neccessary stuff like toilet paper and diapers. We also had to get a birthday present for a friend. Mason was invited to his first birthday party… well his first non family birthday party because he has a million cousins. So he was very excited to pick out the birthday present for his friend Adia. Kids so do not understand the price of things because he was picking out all the really expensive toys at least he wants to be generious. =_)  So then I made the mistake and went to the clothes section the little girl clothes section anyway I will gloss over  that and just say we ended up with a few cute outfits and a new pair of shoes for one Kyboo. And most of the clothes and the shoes were purple. =-) Then we bought bubble swords yeah they did not have neat things like this when I was a kid. These long sword shaped things filled with  bubbles.  So we take all of our loot home and it’s about 3:30 by this time. Which would of been a great time for me to clean the house and put the kids down for a quick nap. But nope we head outside to the front yard to blow bubbles then dropped by the pool to cool our feet before we went inside. That was fun… Mason wanted to know why it was so messy he is a bit of a neat freak but he had fun.   Then my 16 year old nephew came over to put some music  on his itouch and he stayed for a while… We chatted while he downloaded some stuff and the kids just crawled all over. Mason LOVES Justin and was talking to him and crawling up in his lap. And that is how Ben found us when he came home at six. The house trashed and us just lounging around like I said the look on his face was priceless and I knew he was thinking that line “What do you do all day anyway?

So my reply to him is we had fun we made some fun memories and I will try and at least have the kitchen clean tomorrow.    Speaking of which guess I better get ready for that birthday party this afternoon. Maybe I will have time to work on the kitchen after the party before he gets home ….. =-)
